How to Make Shakshuka. Easy Poached Egg Recipe 🍳🍅
Shakshuka is a flavorful and hearty Middle Eastern and North African dish featuring poached eggs in a spicy tomato sauce. It's perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even dinner!
Ingredients:
- 4-6 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- 1 can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish
- Optional: crumbled feta cheese for garnish
- Optional: crusty bread for serving
Steps:
1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper, cooking until they are soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
2. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
3. Stir in the cumin, paprika, ground coriander, and cayenne pepper (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.
4. Pour in the diced tomatoes with their juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer the sauce for 10-15 minutes until it thickens slightly.
5. Make small wells in the sauce using a spoon. Crack an egg into each well. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook on low heat until the egg whites are set but the yolks are still runny, about 5-7 minutes. If you prefer firmer yolks, cook a little longer.
6. Once the eggs are cooked to your liking, remove the skillet from the heat. Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro and, if desired, crumbled feta cheese.
7. Serve the shakshuka hot with crusty bread for dipping.
Tips for Perfect Shakshuka:
1. Use fresh, high-quality eggs for the best results.
2. Adjust the spices to suit your taste preferences.
3. Add other vegetables like zucchini or eggplant for extra texture and flavor.
Enjoy your delicious and exotic shakshuka! 🌿🍳
